South Park Character

You scored as Stan Marsh. You're Stan Marsh! Probably the sanest of the group, you're the mastermind behind the good plans and can easily resolve problems. To you love is amazing, and you're probably already in it. You can be a smart ass and don't have a problem saying what's on your mind. And you're probably an activist. Dude, this is pretty fucked up right here.

Then again, what is a hump?

This is hilarious! I found it on channel 95.5's (Detroit) web site in their celebrity dirt page. It is Alanis Morrisette covering Fergie's "My humps".

Local Woman Assualted

In local news today, a large candle and it's stand have been charged with assault on a Michigan woman. Police say the large candle and its partner were resting on top of the couple's bedroom headboard when they decided to attempt to kill the home's occupants, a Mr and Mrs Wilson. The candle and stand fell approximently 5' and landing a mere 3 inches from the head of Mrs Wilson.

Candle and Stand
Candle and Stand

Police say they are still looking in a motive, but believe jealously may have played a role in these tragic events. Mrs Wilson was having really great sex at the time, and it is possible that the candle/stand duo became so enraged with jealousy they decided to try and end the life of Ms Wilson.

Said Mrs Wilson, "Even though I nearly died, it was worth it. Mr. Wilson is the greatest lover ever".

If convicted, the candle will be burned to death.

Bal en Blanc FTW!

The Wilson Tag Team will be celebrating Easter this year by attending Bal en Blanc in Montreal, one of the best trance and house parties on the continent.

Nothing like hard trace and house music to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus:) If only I didn't have to dress in all white. Stupid conforming rules. I thought techno music was all about dressing like a complete freak and being an individual and all that:)

P.S. Kudos to our buddy Sebastian for coming up with a way to get us there on the cheap!

Music I Like

After my rant the other day about top 20 music sucking, I think I better point out some current music I like. If for no other reason than to remove the taint of "old guy angry at everything changing" my favorite high school friend Kelly has bestowed on both of us.

In no particular order:

Bright Eyes - Lover I don't have to Love - I happen to catch the video for this song on MTV, MTV 2, MTV 3 whatever MTV channel actually plays videos these days. The video was so simple, yet I found myself mesmerized by the lyrics. They have sort of a Violent Femes sound to them, which I happen to also like. You can watch the video on youtube. Go watch it right now. I mean it. Right now. I actually feel sad for people who haven't heard it yet. Its that good. Seriously. DO IT! Bitch...

Fall Out Boy - Fantastic stuff. Their latest CD is even better than their previous one. Both have been in my rotation for several months now. Though I am really starting to get sick of their Arm's Race song. Please release another song from the CD!

My Chemical Romance - I've come around to these guys again lately. Their newest album isn't great start to finish, but it has some really great stuff and overall I like it. Black Parade is another song that has been played WAY too much lately

Three Days Grace - I LOVE these guy's music. If you like hard rock music even a little, pick up their CD One-X. Its fantastic start to finish.

Hinder - Excellent self hating, dark music. Although I joke with people that their first single "Lips of an Angel" was created after someone bet him he couldn't make people like a song about a guy thinking of cheating with his ex-girlfriend.

Shakira & Beyonce - Beautiful Liar - OK, I admit this is a weird addition. I'm going to admit something here I have never admitted to anyone. I like Shakira's music. There I said it:) I know that's not befitting of someone as into Angry White Music (tm) as I claim to be, but I do. I just dig her voice.

Darwin hard at work

Man Killed Trying To Steal Copper Wire

This guy in Detroit was killed today after he tried to steal copper wire from a high voltage line using a metal ladder and bolt cutters. They mentioned on the news he took almost 8000 volts from this little criminal endeavour. Favorite quote:

"...it is thought he was dead at the scene."

Gee, you think?!?!?!

All for $3/lb copper wire. This sort of brilliant scheme reminds me of Lex Luther. Except without the whole "evil genius" part to get in the way. Oh, and also the whole "being alive" part now too:)

Well done retard. One less moron to have to deal with in this world.

Top 20 Suck More Then Usual

Has anyone noticed that top 20 music sucks even more than usual lately? XM's Top 20 station has some really HORRIBLE music on a constant loop. Stuff like:

Gym Class Heroes - Cupid's Chokehold - Sweet god this song makes me want to stab my ears drums out. Its the sort of song a 14 year old would write. With lyrics like, "She's got a smile that would make the most senile annoying old man bite his tongue", I really want to meet the music exec who found this group. So I can PUNCH HIM IN THE BALLS!

Akon - Smack that - I don't get the attraction of this song. Even the chorus, the hook of the whole song, is ridiculous. How can you possible sing, "Maybe go to my place and just kick it, like Taebo" with a straight face?

Mims - This Is Why I'm Hot - Music is not repeating the same pharse over and over again. That's what people with brain damage do. For example,

"this is why im hot, this is why im hot, this is why, this is why, this is why, im hot this is why im hot, this is why im hot, this is why, this is why, this is why im hot, im hot cuz im fly, you aint cuz u not, this is why, this is why, this is why im hot im hot cuz im fly, you aint cuz u not this is this is why, this is why, this is why im hot"

is not music. Its a cry for help.

Pretty Ricky - On The Hotline - Same problem, different name.

Fergie - I don't even need to make a joke here, do I?

Typical

Weather is back to normal here. Its snowing right now. 30 hours later and it is 40 degrees cooler outside. Typical Michgan weather.

Like we used to say when I was younger: If you don't like the weather here in Michigan, wait a day.

Spring in Michigan

It was 75 degrees here today. 75! In March! What the hell is going...you know what? Forget it. I'm not going to say anything bad about this. I love this weather!

Best thing so far today: I was sitting on my deck reading the paper and enjoying the weather when I hear my neighboor yell to her husband, "Eric needs your help! He's stuck in the tree again."

Ah.... to be young again and have that be my biggest worry.

Advice from the Hood

Just like the song says: Life ain't nothin but bitches and money:)

Bitches and Money

And just for the record: yes, we do have a lot of time on our hands. Also for the record: This is the only second time in my life I have ever had that much cash on me (first time was for Sue's wedding ring).

Update: Our friends Baby G and Dizzle created a awesome ytmnd of this. Check it out: http://bitchesandmoney.ytmnd.com/

NWA and I make up

Remember my angry rant about flying and Northwest the other day? Especially that part about, "In any other industry when you fail to make a customer happy, you would reward them with something to make up for it." Well, it looks like I have to be slightly less mad now.

About 2 days after I got home, I got a letter from Northwest saying I had been credited double airline miles for the trip because of the inconvenience. So here's me: slightly less mad this evening. And now that Antonella Barba has been kicked off American Idol, I'm down right giddy. All they need to do now is send home that long haired dude Sanjaya and I will have made my peace with FOX.

We all could be a little better...

Earth from Space

Glacers melting

This past weekend Eric and I finally got around to watching An Inconvenient Truth. I do not care what political party you belong to: if you are human and have a heart at all you must watch this movie. At least go to the website and read about it; you can read, right? Go here for some of the science.

I also do not see why caring about the environment is a liberal issue. If you live on Earth then you should care. Ensuring your children have a world to live in is a moral issue, not a political one. If you care about the planet at all you should do something to save the planet you live on. Otherwise why bother working and building a future for yourself and why bother having kids when they won't have a planet to live on?

American's contribute more pollution than Southeast Asia, South America, the Middle East, and Africa combined. That is frightening. As humans, everyone needs to do their part and stop being lazy and selfish. The Republicans answer to this is usually, "so? I will be dead by then." Hello!!! Why are you having children and why are your children having children? I am not, but if you are Christian, this should be simple. You believe in God, God "created" Earth. I do not think he would like the fact that you destroyed his hard work. That should be a sin.

The fact is that global warming has already begun. Have you noticed how each year is a little warmer? In Michigan especially, we can tell by how much less snow falls each winter. The glaciers are disappearing. Notice all of the bigger, more frequent hurricanes, tornados and typhoons? Katrina was so huge partly because of global warming.

You can go here to see 6 pages of things that you can do. Some are simple things so there is no excuse.

I realized how bad Eric and I are in our habits. I felt awful after watching this. I know I have blogged about American car companies, but I have a new look and a new respect for Asian car companies. At least Honda and Toyota are doing something to decrease global warming because China and Japan have regulations on gas mileage to decrease emissions. Of course Americans only care about this if it saves them money. We are currently looking for a hybrid car. We only need one since Eric doesn't drive. Plus Ann Arbor is going to start up a train utilizing old rail tracks along US-23 from Brighton to the U of M hospital and eventually it will come to Howell, so I will take that to conserve energy. We replaced all of our lightbulbs with fluorescent ones to conserve energy and save money. We always shut off appliances and lights when not in use. The Mythbusters even found this to be true. We are going to switch some of our appliances to energy savers and we are going to check our insulation. Also, I am going to plant tons of trees this year. At my mom's house we always planted at least 10 trees a year, one year we planted 100. We planted one in Alabama last year ;) Of course being a Dave Matthew's fan for 13 years I have always given money to Green peace through them cause they are big contributers. There is more that we are going to do. Please help us, we are only two people...

"Because we don't think about future generations, they will never forget us." ~Henrik Tikkanen

"I think the environment should be put in the category of our national security. Defense of our resources is just as important as defense abroad. Otherwise what is there to defend?" ~Robert Redford, Yosemite National Park dedication, 1985

"Your grandchildren will likely find it incredible - or even sinful - that you burned up a gallon of gasoline to fetch a pack of cigarettes!" ~Dr. Paul MacCready, Jr.

TRUE.com - How dumb do you think we are?

I've noticed over the last few weeks that true.com has got some truly, truly, TRULY, perverted people working in their ad agency. For example, I've seen the following all show up on myspace.com at least a few times (sorry for the giant space here; blogger.com is stupid sometimes):

TRUE.com hussy #1

TRUE.com hussy #2

TRUE.com hussy #3

Seriously...You really expect people to believe that a bunch of girls who look and dress like that are on your site? Really? I mean, exactly how dumb do you think we all are? I know TV gives us a completely unnatural view of the number of beautiful people in the world, but still. Even guys living in trailers know better than this.

Wisconsin Drunk Blog!

I'm Drunk!!!!

Wisconsin is all right by me right now.

This is how I know I am drunk: I pee in a circle!

Fuck ya, it is good to be me:)

I'm watching Def Poetry on HBO. Even drunk, I know that this is some great shit. I know as the white "man", that sounds 100% lame. So be it. Even as white as I am, I can appreciate this.

DRINKING! DRUNK! WOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHH!!!!!!

Fuck pillow pants! Honk if you like or love pussy!

HOOOOOONNNNNKKKKK!!!

Why I Hate Flying

I’m in WI again this week for work. So you already know that I am not in the best mode. My time at Detroit Metro Airport did not help the situation.

Anyone thinking that jet setting around the country is a glamorous life is clearly uninformed about typical airline service. Just for this segment of my trip alone, I’ve already been subjected to far more customer service nightmares than I would accept from any other industry on the planet.

I was given a reservation on a flight that was overbooked. One of the joys of flying that you quickly become accustomed to is the fact that airlines regularly sell more seats then they have available on a flight on the theory that a certain percentage of people will cancel or miss the flight. This of course means if everyone actually shows up, someone (perhaps several someones) who were sold a seat will be forced to wait for the next flight. In what other industry would we accept this?

My flight was 2 ½ hours late leaving the airport. Of course, they didn’t come right out and tell us that. Instead, they changed the departure time every half hour for 2 ½ hours. No ability for us to get dinner or look for somewhere to hang out for a while. Just sit around here and wait for us to get to you. In what other industry would we accept this?

And no explanation either. In fact, when we initially asked the attendants what the delay was for, they claimed they had no idea. No idea? What the heck is that little screen there in front of you for anyways? That’s just being too lazy to find out. Look, I’ll accept a lot of delay if you will just tell me why I’m standing around this gate. No explanation immediately makes me think that you are just fucking with me. In what other industry would we accept this?

Finally, 2 ½ hour delay with no monetary kickback is ridiculous. My transaction with you was to give you money in exchange for getting me to WI by 8pm. Not, “whenever the fuck we get around to taking off”. I can understand weather delays, but I’m fucking pissed when you tell me that you discovered at the last second that your plane can’t fly because of a minor mechanical problem that took YOU 2 hours to fix (a screw had fallen out the stairway leading into the plane). That’s not my problem. You failed to live up to your end of the bargain. In any other industry when you fail to make a customer happy, you would reward them with something to make up for it. In what other industry would we accept “well, I’m sorry but please sit here for 2 ½ hours because of our incompetence?”

GM / Chrysler merger?

Yahoo.com: GM in early talks to buy Chrysler

I heard this rumor today on the local news. I can't seriously believe this is real. Maybe someone who knows the industry better can explain it to me, but from what I see GM and Chrysler merging make no sense. Lets review:

Chrysler lost over $1.4 billion (that's with a "b") last year.
Chrysler depends on large SUV and truck sales just like GM, at a time when both are declining.
They have a similar line-up of vehicles.
They both have too much capcity as it is.
They have the same high labor costs.

What could GM possibly get from this?

Happy Marriage

A friend of mine who shall remain nameless recently sent me the following myspace message:

Now the Q & A since its almost Valentines Day...you and your wife look so freakin happy its almost disgusting, but I'm a hopeless romantic so its not to me....te he. Anyway, the million dollar question is...*ahem* How do you stay so happily married??? I divorced a while back and now I'm in a long term relationship with my son's father...and I'm TERRIFIED to get married again. The sad part is he's a really great guy :( I guess Im just afraid I'll fall out of love with him too. So, Dr. Eric, obvious relationship expert, how does one come upon such perfection?

I wrote her the following response in private, but seems so appropriate for Valentines Day that I thought I would share:

We are pretty happy, but I've always thought a big part of that is that we are insanely over the top in love with each other. I couldn't live without Sue anymore and the same goes for her (I think). And oddly it is the same now as it was 10 years ago when I met her. Sure, we have had some fights and rough spots, but the good days have so far way outweighed the bad ones.

So I guess very short answer to "How do you stay so happily married?" is find someone you can't spend another day without. If you can do that, the rest is pretty easy.

Happy Valentines Day Sue:)

Hockey and Drinking

Good weekend with the DPP (Detroit Party Posse, not to be confused with the HPP). Took in the Michigan / Michigan State hockey game at the Joe. God I love hockey. Sue and I may need to get season tickets next year for MSU. And I have to once again agree with Ryan's long ago comment about watching teams where hockey is a big deal vs watching teams where it is not so much: You can really tell the difference in talent. MSU vs UofM looked a lot smoother and more professional then the game I saw UAH play.

As with any outting to the Detroit area, we ended up in our favorite hole in the wall Hamtramack bar: Whiskey in the Jar. Basically 3 tables, a pool table, and bar. Good times. Anytime you get a member of your party banned from playing music on the jukebox you know you were having a good night (specifically, banned for the playing of music from Telsa).

You know what really grinds my gears?

Here's the story behind this carnage:

Well, Tuesday morning (1/30), I was riding into work and heading down hill when the car two ahead of me stopped short. The guy ahead of me stopped short (skidding a bit), but did not hit the guy in front of him. I'm a good ways back, so I congratulate myself for stopping in time too. However, no sooner after I felt triumphant than WHAM I get hit from behind, hard. This drives me into the guy in front of me. MOTHERF***ER! Now I'm pissed.

Luckily no one was hurt (btw, the couple in the car in front of me was getting married in two weeks). The guy's car that hit me, though was totaled. The cops come (eventually, first 911 call I made from my cell) and they give a ticket to the guy behind me because the couple in front of me corroborated my version of events.

Good news

  • The car wasn't totaled (I don't want a new car payment right now).
  • My insurance is not involved for the car in front of me because the damage is nonexistant and I'm pretty sure the driver had a suspended liscense so he didn't want to make waves.
  • The guy's insurance behind me is paying to fix all the damage to my car (no deductible and they will cover a rental for the week it'll be fixed) because it was totally his fault.
  • The car is drivable because, somehow the brake lights and turn signal bulbs still work.
Bad news
  • My car is all F***ed up and looks like crap with a yellow rope tying the trunk shut because numbnuts bent it so much it won't shut. It bounces a bit up and down whenever I drive over 25 MPH.
  • I've been in this byzantine hell of red tape trying to coordinate insurance companies and the body shop. Typical exchange? Insurance estimates the damage at $2800, body shop at $5800.
  • The insurance company doesn't pay to give you *new* parts, they only want to give me salvage parts from a scrap yard. I'm not gonna accept a different color trunk lid that's for damn sure.
  • It's a week later and the parts haven't even been ordered. Figure another 2 weeks minimum before it's back and fixed.

Here's some more pics that don't really capture the carnage (great band name, btw), especially because, in my anger I somehow used the Sepia button on sue's digi camera (grrr...) So, here is my old-timey looking rage:

Super Bowl Post

Most impressive thing during the Superbowl: Not the football. Oh no. The most impressive thing was the fact that those half time dancers could dance in the 3 inch stiletto heels with all that rain and not fall on their ass.

Least Impressive: What the heck was that pre-game show? It looked like the Cat in the Hat threw up in his hat and poured it on the field.

Best Commercials: I really liked the "Connectile Dysfunction" one from Sprint. The Bud Light commercials "fist bump is out" and "guy with an axe and Bud Light" were hilarious. And those "Survior" CareerBuilder.com commercials were great.

And yes, GoDaddy.com's marketing is still run by 13 year old boys (THANK GOD!).

Random Thought: Speaking of commercials, why did every Coke commercial show people drinking from the old glass bottles? You haven't been able to buy a glass bottle of Coke since I was 10 years old.

Tag, five things about me...

Hey all, despite the doubts, here goes for me: =)

1) I was a weird kid (still am). I was deathly afraid of the dark. I slept with a light on until 13 years old or so. I remember watching some kid's show at about 8 years old where there were these monsters that snuck into your room at night and stole your socks (think underpants gnomes, but they looked like mini Grim Reapers to me). I set up elaborate traps with yo yos so that they would go off if these "Sneakers" came into the room.

2) I was also a smart kid (but my imagination did run a bit too wild). Around 5-6 years old, I stopped eating many foods and most meat. My (very eager) mother took me to a therapist to get ideas to help me eat. They gave me an intelligence test, but didn't come up with a score because I was doing well answering questions way above my grade level, but I was getting too frustrated by missing some of them and they stopped the test early.

3) Also, as a kid, I sprained my arm at Disney World. I was about 12-13 and there were these cool one-person motor boats that go around the lake between the major hotels there. I was too young to go on them (you were supposed to be 14), but my dad, in an uncharacteristic display of coolness, lied about my age. I was doing find driving one (do you drive a boat?) until I was coming around a little island and, out of nowhere, WHAM another kid plowed into me with his boat. Looking back, I guess I was lucky not to be hurt worse, but I went to an Orlando hospital where they pronounced me sprained at the scene. It kind of sucked to have a sling at Disney World, but at least I got some good sympathy from family and from Pluto.

4) I played the rabbi in my high school production of Fiddler on the Roof. This was fun and I learned a bit of Hebrew in the process. I think I got the role because I was the only one who tried out who had a beard, but this was silly because the other actors got fake beards put on that were much bushier than my real one. The Drama Club (Thespians) had some wild nerdly hazing to join though. First, you had to memorize a speech from Shakespeare (Hamlet's advice to the players) and then the current members would make you recite it in odd ways. For example, I had to translate it into Spanish on the spot (what’s the Spanish for “periwig-pated” again?), or have to say only every other word, or keep adding marshmallows to your mouth every time you came to the word “the.” I still remember 90%+ of the speech, 10 years later.

5) Although raised Catholic, I can remember the exact moment I stopped believing. I had been part of afterschool Catholic classes (called CCD, which we assumed stood for Catholic Church detention). I had this one wacky instructor who told us that bar codes were the sign of the beast and that every computer has “666” written on the inside multiple times. However, what really sent me over the edge was the conflict with my scientific beliefs. I was just learning about biology and evolution (it’s basically a fact, get over it) when my teacher made his argument against evolution. He said, let’s assume the first astronaut on the moon had found a wristwatch up there and wanted to explain how it got there. An evolutionist would say “oh, it must have evolved the glass face to protect it from harm and the watch band to help it move around.” Whereas the creationist would come up with the simpler (and implied better explanation) that “God put it there.” This was (and probably still is) the dumbest thing I’d ever heard an adult say.

Bonus director’s cut things you might not have known about me:

A) I’ve ridden in a hot air balloon twice. Once in 5th grade my Talented and Gifted class had a field trip where I went with my dad on a hot air balloon. I wasn’t scared of the ride, but I remember being afraid that, if I look directly down, my glasses would fall off and I’d miss the rest of the scenery. Later, for my 8th anniversary dating Sue, I surprised her with a ride (heh heh). It’s pretty frickin sweet….
B) I was straight edge and basically drank no alcohol until about 20.5 years old. As for the time since then? Well that’s covered by a little thing we call the 5th amendment.

What Superhero are you?

Found this via Baby G and Dizzle's flatmate's (so what does that make us? absolutely nothing) blog: http://www.thesuperheroquiz.com/.

My answers would be:

- Do you like to fly? 3.

I'm not really scared of it, but then again I really dislike that whole landing thing. Any minute I just know that Bernoulli's principle is going to give out and we are going to become a very aerodynamic paper weight.

- Do you like to wear a cape? 5

Come on! Capes are AWESOME. Plus, World of Warcraft has taught me that capes provide some much needed armor over the back side.

- Are you very virtuous? 3

More than some. Less than others.

- Are you a persistent do-gooder? 4

Pretty much. With a few exceptions, I'm always trying to do the right thing and not break the law.

- Are you somewhat reserved and easy going? 3

I like to think I'm pretty easy going (unless we don't have a plan. FUCK! WE NEED A PLAN!) but not reserved; Witness for example the number of women I have asked for sex favors or the number of times I posted some very personal internal thoughts on this blog..

- Are you an intelligent geek? 5

What am I if not this?

- Do you like redheads? 5

Hell ya! Also, blonds, brunettes, green, blue, purple, and any other hair color you can think of.

- Are you accident prone? 2

Not really. Witness last post about number of hospital visits.

- Are you a hopeless romantic? 2

Nope. Sorry Sue:)

- Do you have a good sense of humor? 4

I think so. BOOBIES! :)

- Do you like hi-tech gadgets? 5

That's like asking, "Does Dick Cheney have a hump?" OF COURSE!

- Did you have a bad childhood? 1

I had the single most normal, easy going childhood on earth

- Do you have a dark personality? 2

I'm cynical, but not so bad that you really notice.

- Do you wear thongs? 1

Although there is that one old pair of boxers that might as well be....

- Do you have long hair? 1

Nope.

- Are you VERY comfortable with your body? 5

I sure am. I've got a great butt:)

- Do you value independence and privacy? 4

I mean, sure. Who is going to answer no to this? On the other hand, this whole working at home has taught me that human contact has some definite pluses.

- Do you ever wear a pushup bra? 1

Sorry. What little I have of pecs is all natural.

- Are you beautiful? 3

I'm not the cutest guy at this party, but I'm not the ugliest either.

- Are you good at reading people? 1

No way. I never notice that bored look in their eyes:)

- Do you like to be in the limelight? 5

I write a blog read by 5 people just for the tiny sliver of attention it gets me. What do you think?:)

- Are you young at heart? 3

Mostly. Although I want those damn young kids to turn their music down and pull their pants up for god's sake.

- Are you good at acrobatics? 1

That would be a no. I can barely make it down my stairs without tripping and killing myself.

- Are you a little naive? 3

Sometimes.

- Are you easily angered? 2

No way. I prefer to live and let live. Or insult them back.

- Do you have hidden strength? 1

Like my pecs, what you see is what you get.

- Are you a loner? 3

More so lately thanks to the job.

- Do you often hurt people without realizing it? 1

How would I know if I don't realize it? :)

- Do you move a lot? 5

Shaky McCaffieneBounce at your service.

- Are you athletic? 3

I'm in horrible shape but I still manage to win Cavemon events, so lets call it a draw.

- Are you a fast runner? 4

I can get from point a to b faster than a lot. I'm not carrying much weight between a and b:)

Learn something new every day

I had a rather embarrassing experience yesterday (at least, its embarrassing for a computer geek like me). I discovered quite by accident that for the last 6 months or so I have been running my dual core Athlon 64 x2 as a single core. Nice. 6 months of playing WoW and the Sims 2 at roughly half the speed they should have been running at. Really, really, nice...

When I upgraded my CPU/motherboard, I just used my existing hard drive and installed some new drivers. Turns out that if you upgrade from a single proc to a dual proc in WindowsXP, the OS does not detect the second CPU automatically. In fact, there is no way to update the OS to use the second proc without reinstalling the OS (apparently a very low level component is installed during the OS install that cannot be replaced without reinstalling the whole thing). So guess what I spent the day doing? No really, I bet you can guess.

Ah well. I have to get back to "pwning the n00bs" as R would say. At least now I can see them twice as often as before:)

P.S. For the record, I would NEVER say "pwning the n00bs". NEVER!

What has Eric and Sue been up to?

Our blog has been quiet. Ever since the release of expansion of World of Warcraft: TheBurning Crusades, our WoW crack addiction has been rekindled. It is so pretty... So many new quests, leveling and instances!! Our guild has been running all of the new ones! It is tons of fun! Yes we are geeks and proud of it. It is a national phenomena! When it was released it was front page of the entertainment section of The Detroit News. Couples that play together, stay together :)

This past weekend though, we caught the auto show with our pals Mike, Joyce, and Konrad. It was cool. We have not been to it in about 5 years because we lived in Alabama. Highlights: Eric next to the Michelin man, Me and Joyce and Mike in a mini, the release of the smart car in the US in 2008!! Here are some pics of the better cars:

Tag, five things about me

Eric tagged me and of course I have to comply because I am a whore for forward type things. I am currently obsessed with Myspace bulletins that are like forwards.

1. When I was little we were dirt poor. My mom was a single mother trying to work several jobs but I remember many days standing in line for our box of government provided food. Mmm government cheese... not. I also remember going to get our food stamps. We lived in a crappy neighborhood. When I was 12 my mom remarried and we moved to Chesaning and at first we had more money due to my step dad and his great job at Farmer Peets with great benefits. But of course they closed down and all the benefits went with it. My family never had that much money even later in life. My first two years of college were free due to my poorness. But I overcame all of that and was the first one in my family to go to college and to not get pregnant or get someone else pregnant before 18. Since I can remember I have always thought in the back of my brain that I would get out of this kind of life someday and I did. I think being smart and making smart choices is part of it.

2. In high school I was in a lot of plays and musicals. My first 3 years I was just in the chorus in Oklahoma!, Little Shop of Horrors and West side story. My senior year I was a lead nun in the sound of music!! Yes I was a nun and for fun my best friend and a bunch of the other nun girls walked into a bar after rehearsal in our costumes for fun! I was also in the play Dracula which only had 8 people total in it. I had a part with few lines, I was the maid, but I was on stage a lot. My senior year my best friend and I directed a middle school play together. That was fun.

3. I have been denied access into Canada. Living in Michigan, Canada is right next door and a fun country to visit. In High school my best friend and I like to go since you could drink at 19. When we were 18 we were on our way there and we had my best friends boyfriend who was 17 and the border people did not believe our story on why we were going into Canada. They thought we were kidnapping a minor. They searched our car inside and out and then gave us a piece of paper with a big stamp that said, access denied. It was one of our proudest moments...

4. Eric is always amused about my bits of crazy. Number one, I am very paranoid. I lock the doors constantly in our house because I have this vision of someone breaking in and brutally murdering all of us in our sleep. I guess the neighborhood I grew up in was part of it. I remember being woken up to someone banging on our back door and it was my cousin who was running from the cops. I also get myself nervous because I always think the worst could happen in all situations. I overthink everything I do and say. I have thought of some pretty big stories and they actually panicked me into no sleep. I also have some OCD. I am obsessed with triple checking that the doors are locked. I will unlock the door to make sure that it locks 3 times. I have gotten better though. I am in general a nervous person.

5. Dead bodies don't bother me. I guess in my line of work I was pushed into dealing with bodies. The other day I was getting the body of one of my patients ready for the morgue and I was just thinking, hey this is a dead woman and it doesn't bother me. I don't get the heeby jeebies (sp??). I am always respectable with the bodies, I am not a freak. I even seriously thought of being a mortician in High school after one spoke to my careers in health care class. Even before I was a nurse and I went to funerals, I was never freaked out about them.

Well, that is my tag. I tag Kien, Jen, Paul, Uncle R, and R. Let's see what you got peeps.

Tag: Five things about me

A bunch of the blogs I read are passing around a virtual game of tag where you write down five things about yourself that are not common knowledge, then challenge five of your friends to do the same. So I thought I would give it a try (plus its 2:00 in the morning and I need to burn off some energy from this Mountain Dew I drank...stupid, stupid Eric...):

1) I've been on TV twice. Both times were in high school for a local PBS show called Quizbusters. Its a sort of Jeopardy/quiz bowl game that most high schools in mid-Michigan send teams to. Both times my team lost in the first round. Incidentally, the show is filmed on MSU's campus (I can't remember exactly where now), making this the first time I had ever been on campus.

2) Also in high school, I worked on part of a team that won a Society of Automotive Engineers competition for large scale industrial robotics. We designed and built a large scale project to automate the construction of snow skis using a large robotic arm (sort of like this, but about 5 times as big). I did all the wiring, programming, and some of the pneumatic setup. It was one of my prouder moments in high school. I still have fond memories of the day I hooked up one of the pneumatic cylinders on our rig with just a bit too much pressure (lets say 4 times too much) and managed to launch the boot binders several feet in the air:) I have less fond memories of the day I took a 110v zap from the power source when I decided that I did need to unplug it while I was reworking some connected logic.

3) I've never broken a single bone in my body. The worst I ever came was a very serious sprain of a few toes my right foot while playing a very stupid game in the 5th grade we called Chinese tag. Basically, it was just like regular tag except that you had to pull the person off of some piece of playground equipment to make them "it". Really, really stupid. I still have bad pain from it once in a while from it. When it happens, it sort of feels like the tendons in foot have somehow slid off of the bone. Let me tell you it is really painful.

4) Speaking of which, that same game caused my only admission to a hospital. I got a very bad concussion in the 4th grade after I was pulled down onto my head. It was so bad that I still vividly remember sitting in class 20 minutes later trying to figure out why the letters on the book right in front of me were swimming. Three hours waiting in the hospital and a CAT scan later (scary when you are 10), I'm fine.

5) Before I decided on Computer Science as a career around 9th or 10th grade, I wanted to be a lawyer. I figured I was good at arguing and paperwork (my rather elaborate D&D world with my brothers taught me that). Before that, I wanted to be an astronaut. Er, at least that's what I thought when I was eight. I figured out much later that what I was actually aiming for was astronomer, but hey! I was eight. When you're eight, everyone who has anything to do with space is an astronaut:)

OK, so now I get to tag some folks: Well, how about Sue, Paul, Kien, R, and Uncle R?

Scratch Global Warming off the list

Federal Way schools restrict Gore film

You can't make up shit like this. A school in the Seatle area has restricted the viewing of Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth documentary. They insist that, much like evolution, global warming is only a theory and as such, cannot be presented as fact. They issued a ruling saying that the movie can only be shown if a creditable alternative is also presented. The best (er...worst) thing is the e-mail from a concerned parent that caused this uproar in the first place.

"Condoms don't belong in school, and neither does Al Gore. He's not a schoolteacher," said Frosty Hardison, a parent of seven who also said that he believes the Earth is 14,000 years old. "The information that's being presented is a very cockeyed view of what the truth is. ... The Bible says that in the end times everything will burn up, but that perspective isn't in the DVD."

Are you fucking kidding me? Never mind that he is actually making an argument for global warming:) Never mind that nearly every arm of the US government has in fact endorsed the idea of at least some form of global warming. Never mind that he compared Al Gore to a contraceptive. Never mind any of that. Lets just focus on where this line of thinking leads us. What's next? We start pointing out the fact that the "Theory" of Relativity is only a theory and that we should take everything it predicts with a grain of salt? How about that whole earth revolves around the sun thing? Should we present some alternatives to that too?

His wife has a even more American view:

"From what I've seen (of the movie) and what my husband has expressed to me, if (the movie) is going to take the approach of 'bad America, bad America,' I don't think it should be shown at all," Gayle Hardison said. "If you're going to come in and just say America is creating the rotten ruin of the world, I don't think the video should be shown."

I.e., I would prefer that my childern not seen the world the way it is (we account for 5% of the world population and generate 25% of the pollution), but instead I just want to wave my flag and yell "U-S-A! U-S-A!". Sigh...

Armed and Famous

Just when I think reality TV cannot get any worse, I see an ad for this CBS - Armed and Famous.

Given the way that celebs seem to be completly immune to justice in this country, does anyone else but me think that giving them guns and a badge is a REALLY bad idea?

I can just imagine the conversation that went on to get this approved:

Exec1: You know that show "The Surreal Life" on VH1? Wouldn't that show be really great if the celebs had guns? I mean, people love guns. And people seem to be obsessed with celebs. Imagine if we could combine them into one unholy concept!

Exec2: I like it. But can we somehow tazer someone on TV? The only thing the sheep of this country like better then watching celebs is watching celebs suffer. And besides, I really like tazers. Maybe give the celebs some authority too so that they can pretend that people give a rats ass about them still.

Exec1: OK, so far we have authority, guns, tazers, and celebs. All we need is some sex and we could print money! Wait I know: Everyone likes a chick/dude in a uniform. We need people in uniforms. You know: cheerleaders, nurses, dental hygienist. Whatever turns you on.

Exec2: I like ladies in authory...

Exec1: BRILLIANT!

Lightbulb jokes of Engineers

Stupid nerd jokes you can tell people to make them believe you are an even bigger dork than they already see you as:

Q: How many computer programmers does it take to screw in a light bulb?

A: None. Its a hardware problem

Q: How many hardware engineers does it take to chage a light bulb?

A: None. They fix it in the driver.

Q: How many mathematicians does it take to change a light bulb?

A: N, where N is any positive integer.

Q: How many statisticians does it take to change a light bulb?

A: 3.415 +- 5% (95% of the time).

New CD Plug

Sue was kind enough to get me a copy of the Don't Fake It disc from The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. Despite having the strangest band name on the planet, I really like their music. They sound sort of like the music I imagine a love child of Our Lady Peace and Stabbing Westward would make.

If you have a few Best Buy gift cards lying around that you can't think of anything to spend on, it's a good bet.

New Years Bitches!

Before heading off to whatever New Years Eve celebration you have planned, remember these immortal words of that most inspirational of bands, Sprung Monkey:

Party like a rockstar, kick a little ass!

Rock it like a pornstar, slap a little ass!

President's Dog Best Actor in White House

Your tax dollars hard at work: Barney's Holiday Extravaganza

You know what's really scary about this video? I'm not 100% sure that Bush knows that the dog he is talking to ISN'T GOING TO RESPOND.

The Daily Show's version is way better: Barney's Holiday Extravaganza - The Daily Show Version

Side note: Notice that they never say the cat's name? There is a good reason for this. The cat's name is "India", which caused quite the little party in India a few years ago. Apparently some folks there don't like the President naming something that poops in the box, spits up fur, and could easily be punted 50 yards after their country.

Weekend ventures

Eric and I had a great weekend. Friday night we went to Bleu again, my fave club in Detroit. An old friend from high school that I have recently reconnected with, mentioned that DJ Icey was going to be spinning so we went to check him out since we had not heard of him. As always the music at Bleu rocked hard. The opening DJ was pretty awesome too! I am not sure what type of techno to classify Icey as but it was full of hard beats and seemed to have a tinge of jungle at times. Everytime we are at Bleu they play Eric and my fave new song "Put your hands up for Detroit" (you can sample this here at Eric's Myspace page). We danced the night away with my old friend Jen, who I just saw again Friday after 9 years, and with some of her friends. It was tons of fun. It is good to find more people that love techno as much as we do that are close by. Eric and I met because of dancing and we just love to groove to techno. I was pretty bummed by the lack of glow stick action, oh well...

I protest!

Detroit Free Press - Racy Green Oak mall displays stir up protests

Saw this on the news the other day and I just had to say something. I live within ten minutes of the mall mentioned in this article, so it caught my attention when a group of folks from one of the local churchs started protesting the display in the window of the mall's Victoria Secret.

I don't understand the concept of protesting against underwear displays. You seem to be implying that underwear of and by itself is somehow evil. Aren't you sort of giving the impression to young impressionable girls that they should avoid underwear altogether? Hey, if that is your message I'm all for it:) Maybe I'll show up this weekend with a big sign that reads, "Looking at underwear may make you sin. Avoid the temptation and don't wear any!" I bet the ladies from Holy Spirit would love that:)

Moreover, I don't understand what the big deal is about seeing women's underwear on a mannequin. Did someone walk by the store and think, "Oh my God look! You can see all the way to that mannequin's mold seam. Someone should do something about that!"

Trying to link seeing underwear in a store window with women's dignity is insane. Hey! If you want to wear granny panties all the time, that's your choice. Don't ruin it for the rest of us!

And the stupidity just keeps on coming...

CNN: Mixed reaction to Cheney's daughter's pregnancy

For those unaware, the Vice President's daughter Mary Cheney announced Wednesday that she is pregnant. Normally that would be a huge press opportunity, with the expectant mother brought out into the Rose Garden so everyone can comment on her "glow" (whatever the f#%k that is. The only people I've ever seen glow are Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and congratulate her for being so fertile and all that, not to mention trip over themselves telling the VP how to clean up baby spit-up off a Halliburton tie. What a wonderful picture...

Sadly, it's not to be. You see, the vice presidents daughter is...<looks around to make sure no one is listening and whispers>....gay.

That's right. A lesbian. A lesbo. A carpet-licker if you will.

So what would normally be an event that the press and white house would be positively wetting themselves over is now something that moral conservatives can comment on so they can appear even more heartless than usual. And as is always the case whenever anyone tries to defend why exactly gay couples shouldn't be allowed to love and marry like us straight folk, they resort to some truly horrible logic:

Janice Crouse of Concerned Women for America described the pregnancy as "unconscionable" and said "It's very disappointing that a celebrity couple like this would deliberately bring into the world a child that will never have a father. They are encouraging people who don't have the advantages they have."

I see. So if you are a gay couple with connections and money, we don't think you getting pregnant is an issue. We are just concerned that you might convince some poorer, less connected lesbians to follow in your footsteps. We can't have that! Ah...right...

Focus on the Family's Carrie Gordon Earll had this gem to share: "Just because you can conceive a child outside a one-woman, one-man marriage doesn't mean it's a good idea. Love can't replace a mother and a father."

That's your logic? If you have to choose between two people being in love raising a child and two people who don't love each other but happen to have a different number of orifices, you would go with option B? Cause that's the way I read that sentence. I know I haven't been on this planet all that long, but I saw enough truly horrible parenting growing up that I know that simply putting a penis and vagina in the same house does not result in well-adjusted, happy children.
